Sin Shredder

In the tradition of the Greek tragedy, catharsis is the sensation or literary effect that would ideally overcome either the characters in a play, or an audience upon watching a tragedy (a release of pent-up emotion or energy). Spectators would explore and

feel –through the dramatic resource of mercy and terror– a representation of events analogous to their own lives.

Sin Shredder attempts to create a direct connection between the participant and the object through a ritual cathartic in nature. It seeks to provide a release - a “cure” of some sort - by providing a channel to expel any traumatic or negative experience. Participants are prompted to recreate or simply evoke those moments, articulate them, and let them go.

Art imitating life or life assuming art. Art as a practice of everyday life.

As an art object/artifact in the context of a gallery space, this piece eliminates the mediation of interpretative elements - the participant is the protagonist of their own story. The participant is the force that propels the expulsion of confined emotions in need of absolution.
